ViewLoader Orion Description and Modification

Orion is made by View Loader company which also includes Brass eagle company. Despite BE's reputation (bad reputation) both BE & VL make good products or more precisely products that let ppl start to play the game. I honestly would never buy a blade or samurai(because they are mostly plastic) but rainmaker, stingray, avenger and other markers are really nice.

Orion is a standard open bolt blow back marker, slightly higer end than your basic spyder because it comes with bottom line adapter, top feed and low pressure chamber.

Out the box orion comes well equiped, with mini drop forward, built in bottom line, volumizer, double finger trigger, and forward grip over the bottom line. Screw in a tank, add a hopper and away you go!

And out the box this marker shoots very well, first time i had a chance of testing was last summer(2004) and we played in cold rain and fog, i let this marker shoot a case of paint and had no jams and no balls breaking. Amazing? I think so....

Now its outfitted with kingman regulator - can be bought under a name "spyder tl kit" or"spyder regulator kit". Beauty of this regulator kit is that the threads on the macroline fittings as well as on the regulator itself are exact match to orions (orion does not use standard fittings so dont buy them unless you have an adapter) , 32deg expansion chamber ( again needs an adapter) and ACI Zerogravity barrel with bolt air hole bored out to 9/16 inch running at 400psi. Another thing that you will never match with orion is its powder blue color - i dont think there is a part in this world with this exact color.

Modding an orion is litte harder because all lines use old spyder threads and the bottom line is not asa threaded and so you need to get an adapter. Also the volumizer aka low pressure chamber uses custom spring and screws, has small air hole which o-ring has to cleap and is set little further back making standard LPSs hard to put in. I had to drill a hole and put a screw in there to be able to put longer LPC, then i had to custom cut a new valve spring. In other words if you want to mod an Orion you need more than a credit card - you need tools! This is the pro and con of this marker - you need to "make it fit " opposed to do bolt on mods like you would on a spyder.
